MegaKC Celebrates the Completion of River Forest Park in North Kansas City

MegaKC was proud to join North Kansas City leaders, project partners, and community members at the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the city’s newest park—a 7.5-acre destination that blends recreation, environmental stewardship, and neighborhood connectivity.

Located in North Kansas City’s Ward 4, River Forest Park transforms a once-underutilized natural area into a vibrant public space featuring scenic trails, a playground, a restroom pavilion, gathering areas, native pollinator plantings, and improved access to the park’s beautiful waterfall. Erosion-control improvements and streambank stabilization also help protect nearby infrastructure and preserve the site’s natural beauty for future generations.

As the project’s general contractor, MegaKC partnered closely with North Kansas City and the design team to turn a long-standing community vision into reality. Our employee-owners completed extensive site development and infrastructure improvements, including installation of stormwater, electrical, information technology, and water utility systems. The project also involved mass grading and site preparation, construction of retaining walls, stairs, hardscape features, park structures, playground installation, safety surfacing, site furnishings, signage, irrigation systems, landscaping, native plantings, and turf establishment.

Building River Forest Park presented unique challenges. The heavily wooded site required thoughtful planning and execution to preserve its natural character while improving accessibility and creating safe, welcoming spaces for residents and visitors. Streambank and slope stabilization measures were incorporated throughout the project to enhance the site’s long-term environmental resilience.

For North Kansas City, the opening of River Forest Park represents the realization of a vision that began more than 50 years ago. The city acquired the property in the early 1970s with plans to develop it into a neighborhood park, but the project remained on hold for decades. Through renewed community engagement and public investment, that vision has now become a reality.

Projects like River Forest Park are a reminder that infrastructure is about more than construction—it’s about creating places where communities can gather, explore, and connect. MegaKC is honored to have played a role in delivering a park that will serve North Kansas City residents for generations to come.
